Heart Patients Need Not Fear of Sex

Jakarta, many heart patients who have concerns about the safety of his soul when having sex. There are some cases of heart disease patients who experience a sudden attack while having sex, even some of them to die.

American Heart Association recently issued a statement that sexual activity is generally not harmful to people with heart disease. However, patients should be examined by a doctor first and be aware that heart disease can cause problems, especially if not controlled.

The association also warned that more research is needed into how the influence of sexual activity on the cardiovascular system and elderly women who have certain conditions.

"The reality is that in most patients, the risk is quite low. In most patients with heart disease are stable, safe enough for them to participate in sexual activity. Activity is comparable with mild to moderate exercise such as walking or climbing stairs," said researcher, Dr. Glenn Levine, professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.

The researchers reported that the likelihood of heart attack associated with sexual activity less than 1%. For people who have had heart attacks, sexual activity increases the risk of heart attack or death with the possibility of 10 to 30 of 1 million people per hour.

Research has found that sudden cardiac death is extremely rare during sexual activity. But when it happens, almost always happen to men who have sex outside of marriage, and in many cases carried out with a younger partner, in a foreign atmosphere, and after consuming the food and excess alcohol.

"Of course there are some patients who have unstable or severe symptoms. What is more important to them is to be stabilized and treated before performing any physical activity bersiko," Levine said as reported by HealthDay, Sunday (02/12/2012).

The researchers also confirmed that sexual activity is safe to do so by people who suffer from mild angina (chest pain) and heart valve disease patients with mild or moderate to mild or no symptoms. Sexual activity is safe for people who have atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) and pacemakers.

Several studies have linked the heart drug with erectile dysfunction. But the heart association was confirmed that a recent study did not directly connect the heart of modern medicine with the condition.

"If the active cardiac patients to exercise and do not have symptoms, it is still okay to have sex. If you are having chest pain, shortness of breath, and palpitations, then you should not have sex. And if you fall somewhere in between, the doctor may do some tests to help find out if the sex is still safe, "said Dr. Reena Pande, a cardiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
