Young widows in Developed Countries Vulnerable HIV Taxable
Jakarta, divorce not only makes the heart sick, but also trigger stress and vulnerable to sexual menual diseases (STDs) such as HIV AIDS. This risk is greater in women who divorced in middle age, around age 30-50 years, especially in developed countries.
"The woman who recently divorced middle-aged are more susceptible of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Reason is because women tend to let the guard down when meeting a new sexual partner and avoid wearing protective because it is not afraid of getting pregnant," said Christopher Coleman, PhD, MPH, RN, associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
In addition, when the aging, physiological changes due to menopause such as thinning of the vaginal wall will make women more vulnerable to viruses.
Drugs that will be used to treat sexually transmitted diseases or HIV becomes difficult tolerated because aging makes the body metabolize alcohol differently.
"There is a lack of knowledge among women about the bodily changes associated with menopause. There is very little research on it, while people and governments do not often talk about it. High-risk sexual behaviors need to be addressed because of the increasing number of middle-aged women who have HIV," says Dr Coleman as reported by ScienceDaily, Tuesday (03/06/2012).
Dr. Coleman highlighted the importance of psychological counseling and sexual health for middle-aged women who had just undergone a divorce. Previous research has found that divorce at a young age is also harmful to health because it causes stress susceptible.
