Amid Corona Virus Outbreak, China Faces Threat of Bird Influenza (H5N1)

 
Jakarta - Chine, Not finished facing the corona virus outbreak, China must again confront the threat of the bird flu virus. China's Ministry of Agriculture on Monday (3/2/2020) reported the emergence of H5N1 cases in Shayong City, Hunan Province.

The virus was detected at the farm with 7,850 chickens. Reportedly, more than half of the chickens have died, but there have been no cases of infection in humans.

"Local authorities have destroyed 17,828 chickens in response to this outbreak," Reuters wrote and was quoted on Monday (3/2/2020).

Hunan Province is located south of the border of Hubei Province, the location of the Corona virus outbreak. South China Morning Post (SCMP) said this would increasingly burden the task of health workers.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) the H5N1 bird flu virus is very dangerous for humans because of the high mortality rate. However, this virus is only transmitted through direct contact with animals, rarely transmits human disease.

In 2002 a bird flu outbreak made the world in an uproar because of its rapid spread even to Indonesia. WHO noted in the period 2003-2009 there were 162 cases of bird flu in Indonesia with 134 of them died.
